In 1945, the Anasagasti family founded Restaurante Atxuriin Cadiz. Jon Monasterio Anasagasti brought the typical flavours of Bermeo’s Basque cuisine to the Andalusian city. Indeed, the new restaurant’s name was taken from one of the oldest districts in Bilbao.
Marian Monasterio, the daughter of Jon Monasterio, has been at the helm of Atxuri since 2004. Following in the footsteps of his predecessors, her son, Julen, shall be the third generation to run Atxuri Restaurante, while maintaining the flavour and style that has characterised the restaurant from the start.
The basic ingredient of our cuisine is the quality of yesteryears. In 2008, the restaurant moved to a new location that blends innovation and modern vibe with its natural, white stone decor and cross beam ceiling, while a few green glass mosaic tiles from the original restaurant and the old painting of Bermeo are displayed at the end of the hallway. Seventy years after the restaurant first opened, we continue to enjoy Atxuri.
